My own concept project done at Aalto University in the course "Synthesis".

In the course we wee given a task to design a house for an artist. The artist was a Finnish rapper F who also sings and plays the piano.

Symbiosis

There is something pure in the way the Great Manta Ray lives in symbiosis with the coral reef. It gives and receives.

 

This peace and harmony is embedded in the spirit of MANTA House, where a braided path of vegetation forms a trail towards calmness of the mind and lifted spirits.

 

MANTA shields the residents from curious eyes with its giant wings: the roof takes a leap from one end of the site plot to the other allowing life to go on in privacy inside.

 

Because of its versatile vegetation, MANTA is a breathing retreat. If you take care of your home, it will take care of you. 

 

The home follows a sustainable design strategy by using mostly wooden materials, playing with light and shadow through positioning of the roof allowing vast views at a low expense on energy, forming flexible spaces and integrating flora.

 

This multifunctional house works both as a home and as a studio for creativity. MANTA’s separated forms allow the resident to  balance spare time with work and to enjoy rich vegetation from everywhere.
